This is the second release of Greenock two. Partnered alongside the best Shiraz, Grenache blends can make a significant one-two combination punch to ensure the world sits up and listens!

Our vineyard, located in Greenock in the west of the Barossa Valley was added to the Elderton family in 2010 and is a great addition to the portfolio. The 60 acre vineyard has plantings back to 1915 and a terroir that has been in demand by many of the Barossa’s elite winemakers. Estate grown on the old Helbig vineyard, from some of the younger Shiraz, Mourvedre and Grenache. Yields are very low, to ensure that the younger vines remain healthy and have the vitality to produce exceptional fruit that belies their age.

Winemakers Comments

Shiraz is typically the first to ripen and was open top fermented alone, with co-fermentation for the later ripening Grenache and Mourvedre. Both parcels were transferred separately to older French oak puncheons. The Shiraz was later added to the blend to enrich and balance the colours, aromas and flavours. Grenache offers luscious red and blue fruits, Shiraz a bit of pepper and richness and Mourvedre gives some real earthiness.

Medium-deep garnet in color, the 2013 Greenock Two Grenache Shiraz Mourvedre is a blend of 49% Shiraz, 41% Mourvedre, 10% Grenache. The nose offers aromas of baked cherries, blackberries and fragrant red currants with hints of pepper, earth and dried herbs. Full-bodied, it possesses a nice freshness and chewy, chunky tannins that hold through the quite earthy and long finish.
