2018 Barossa Semillon
The Ashmead family are excited to bring to you our second release of this variety from our estate vineyard in Greenock. Harvest 2018 gave us good conditions to make this very small batch wine, which we have made using traditional Barossan techniques, and it is our belief that this wine will drink well for many years to come.
Semillon has a very long and proud history in the Barossa Valley, and is home to the oldest vineyards of this variety anywhere in the world. It had been 21 years since Elderton last made a dry Semillon in 1996, as attentions were shifted to making a sweeter dessert style wine (Golden Semillon). Until in 2017 we deemed the vintage the perfect time to again show a dedication to dry Semillon, and to try to protect and promote the history and traditions of this amazing Barossa varietal well into the future.
