2018 Western Ridge Grenache Carignan
This is the sixth release of Western Ridge. Giving significance to the place that the wine comes from is integral to the future of the Barossa and, of course, Elderton. The hamlet of Greenock sits on the Western Ridge of the Barossa Valley. We thought it was a nice name to give to our ‘reserve’ Grenache blend – without mentioning the concept of ‘reserve’ which often struggles for meaning in a world full of marketers.
This is a wine that does not strive to be the biggest, but simply something that will leave a lasting impression and a yearning for more.
Our vineyard, located in Greenock in the west of the Barossa Valley was added to the Elderton family in 2010 and is a great addition to the portfolio. The 60 acre vineyard has plantings back to 1915 and a terroir that has been in demand by many of the Barossa’s elite winemakers. Estate grown on the old Helbig vineyard; Grenache planted in 1969 and Carignan in 1915.

95 Points – Halliday
A wolf in sheep’s clothing, it is at once savoury and fruity, the mouthfeel that of the grapes ex very old vines, an intangible thing.

Vibrant raspberries, as well as a floral edge here with such attractive and energetic fruit flesh on the palate. Long and juicy raspberry finish. Drink now. Screw cap.
