2014 Western Ridge
Exceptional Single SitesBack to All
This is the third release of Western Ridge. Giving significance to the place that the wine comes from is integral to the future of the Barossa and, of course, Elderton. The hamlet of Greenock sits on the Western Ridge of the Barossa Valley. We thought it was a nice name to give to our ‘reserve’ Grenache blend – without mentioning the concept of ‘reserve’ which often struggles for meaning in a world full of marketers.
Our vineyard, located in Greenock in the west of the Barossa Valley was added to the Elderton family in 2010 and is a great addition to the portfolio. The 60 acre vineyard has plantings back to 1915 and a terroir that has been in demand by many of the Barossa’s elite winemakers. Estate grown on the old Helbig vineyard; Grenache planted in 1969 and Carignan in 1915.

of the 2013 vintage: 96+ points - Lisa Perrotti-Brown, Wine Advocate Issue #219, June 2015
Sourced from a single vineyard in Greenock, the 2013 Western Ridge Grenache Carignan is a medium garnet color with hint of purple. The nose reveals very pretty kirsch, roses and red currant preserves notes with a touch of clove-studded orange peel. Medium to full-bodied with medium-firm grainy tannins and lively acid the palate offers tremendous concentration and many, many flavor layers that conclude long and spicy.
