2024 Small Victories Sangiovese

We focused on retaining freshness and keeping the vibrancy the vineyard brings to the sangiovese, while respecting the need for a savoury, textural finish. Super pretty yet somewhat serious, balancing the ever-present tannin and acid makes for a delicious and approachable wine.

We didn’t pick Sangiovese in 2023, so we were pretty excited to watch this fruit ripen and develop for 2024. The lead up to 2024 vintage was smooth, with decent rainfall in the growing season. This ripening period was dry,allowing us to measure out the irrigation and ensure a clean crop. We harvested on 11 April. Open fermentation with regular gentle pumpovers to ensure we extract all the goodness of flavour from the skins whilst carefully ensuring we don’t extract too much tannin, as tannin and acid are so bountiful with sangiovese.

Lovely vibrant fruit to begin, complemented with a creamy edge owing to time on lees. The tight, typical Sangiovese tannin profile adds a lovely persistence to the finish which is balanced with an attractive savoury note.
