2020 Elderton Tennis Classic Wrap-up
by Jess Ruciack
Yesterday we had a fabulous day for the 2020 Elderton Tennis Classic! Perfect weather, strong competition and most importantly fun. Thank you to everyone who came to play this year, and to those who cheered from the sidelines! It is you all who make the day so great and we hope to see you again next year.
Also a huge thank you goes to the supporters of this year’s event – Tennis SA and the Nuriootpa Tennis Club. The matches are facilitated by Matt Zadow and his team from the Nuriootpa Tennis Club, as a major club fundraiser and we thank you for all your hard work.
The Elderton Tennis Classic
The Elderton Tennis Classic is a Fast4 tournament, with mixed doubles competing in two categories based on tennis ability – Here to Win and Here to Wine. The 2020 event was the fourth annual Elderton Tennis Classic.
We began the day at the Nuriootpa tennis courts were the round robin qualifying was held with 32 mixed doubles teams.
After lunch the event moved back here to Cellar Door, for the finals which were played on the grass court. Spectators were able to take front row seats for the finals, relax on the lawn with food by Barossa Street Food, and take a quick dip in the pool to cool off. The kids were able to enjoy the Match Play inflatable, thanks to Tennis SA.
The Championship Rounds
The ‘Here to Win’ category was incredibly strongly contested and provided great tennis for all the spectators.
Congratulations to 2020 Elderton Tennis Classic Champions, Olivia Ley and Oliver Douglas, who won a dozen Ashmead Cabernet Sauvignon and two tickets to the Adelaide International, thanks to Tennis SA. Olivia and Oliver were the 2019 Champions, so great effort to win back-to-back!
Great work to runners-up Tessa and Martin, who were Champions in 2018.
‘Here to Wine’ category winners, Marie Klaosen and John Gericke, won a dozen Ashmead Cabernet Sauvignon and two tickets to the Adelaide International, thanks to Tennis SA. Runners-up were Scott and Kasia.
Other prizes were also awarded to celebrate the fun side of the day:
Best Dressed, Simone Grzesch and Aash Sharma. Back to back winners of this award, we love your commitment!
And ‘Most Fun’ went to Amanda Willoughby!
