Production notes

Description

Only 1414 bottles produced

A single vineyard selection of truly remarkable Shiraz that was planted by the Helbig family in 1915. This vineyard is located on the western ridge of the famous Barossa Valley and has been a highly sought after parcel for many of the Barossa’s leading winemakers. Luckily for the Ashmead family, we were able to acquire this vineyard in 2010, forever ending the race to get this amazing fruit.

Winemaker Notes

Our Helbig Shiraz is dry grown and with the well-established root system, the stunning old vines are not fussed, even with short, hot bursts in weather. The 2022 ripening season rolled in after a lucky escape from close-by hail events. Very mild summer conditions allowed for steady flavour development on the vine and a seamless wine is the result. We held the pressed wine on lees until post malolactic fermentation, then racked to preserve fruit freshness and to balance the bold tannin structure of the wine. Our 2022 wines have been shy in early months, taking time to release their power and depth of flavour. Maybe, as they are such complex wines, they have needed time to release their true characteristics! We have watched this wine develop and mature in oak, and we are excited to finally release it. -Jules Ashmead & Brock Harrison
