Magical 40 Vintages dinner on a warm autumn evening
On Satuday evening, 1 May 2021, we hosted guests from across the country at our Celebrating 40 Vintages dinner at Cellar Door. We couldn’t have ordered better weather – the autumn leaves glowed in the golden hour and the air stayed warm as the sun set and we enjoyed canapes near the front lawn.
As guests enjoyed their wine, Allister and Cameron shared stories from across the decades and spoke about each of the wines.
Canapes enjoyed with some stellar wines were:
House smoked duck breast, red fruits, brioche matched with 1988 Ashmead Family Reserve Sparkling Pinot Pressings
Crisp pork belly, celeriac, caper & lemon slaw matched with 1993 Barossa Riesling and 1992 Barossa Cabernet Sauvignon (Jimmy Watson winner)
Roquefort Gougere, walnut crumb matched with 2008 Neil Ashmead Grand Tourer Shiraz and 2005 Ode to Lorraine CSM
Guests were then seated to continue enjoying the dinner, created by Stuart Oldfield and his team from Handmade Catering.
SA lamb porterhouse, heirloom carrots, spiced yoghurt, pomegranate matched with 2015 Ashmead Cabernet Sauvignon and 2002 Ashmead Cabernet Sauvignon
Slow cooked beef cheek daube, creamed parsnip, heirloom vegetables, rich jus lie matched with 2016 Command Shiraz and 2004 Command Shiraz
Queso Mahon, olive oil, cracked pepper, tarragon matched with 2018 Helbig 1915 Shiraz
Petit Fours / Truffles matched with Duke of Wellington Cellar Tawny
During the evening, we also launched our book Elderton: A Vintage Story with the help of author Nic Brasch who shared some lovely words on the Ashmead family and what the project meant to him, to be involved in bring the Elderton story to print. The book is now available through Cellar Door or online.
