| NEW VINTAGE RELEASE | 2017 Neil Ashmead Grand Tourer Shiraz
7 January 2020
We’re excited to let you know that the 2017 vintage of the Neil Ashmead Grand Tourer Shiraz is now available for you to pop into your wine rack/cellar. Why not visit Cellar Door to taste the new vintage?
Cameron and Allister believe the Neil Ashmead Grand Tourer Shiraz is a fitting tribute to an amazing individual who was always willing to push the boundaries of expectations – it is a different expression of Shiraz than that typically expected of Elderton Shiraz.
Jules Ashmead, Head of Production, notes, “The 2017 Neil Ashmead Grand Tourer Shiraz exhibits luscious bright fruit with a savoury edge and a full finish.” The fruit in this wine comes from outstanding old vine blocks on the Nuriootpa and Greenock Elderton estate vineyards.

Why the name Grand Tourer Shiraz and the car theme behind the packaging?
Neil was a ‘Barossa Road Warrior’ like no other. In the early days of Elderton, he would drive tirelessly from city to city with a car loaded with wine, doing tastings and dinners with whoever would listen, and generally spruiking the Barossa in a time where people were not really interested in a region that was stereotyped as a fortified producer.
It was his love of fast cars that made this pursuit a little easier, thus the unusual choice for the name of this Shiraz.

Reviews
Deep colour; an expressive bouquet of plum and diverse black fruits, the medium to full-bodied palate following in the centre of the road, adding a veneer of spicy/savoury notes largely ex oak. A long life ahead.
94 Points – Halliday Wine Companion 2020
This is a very bold, expressively fleshy shiraz that has such smooth, silky texture. Ribbon-like weaves of blackberries and raspberries, as well as root beer and other, spicy nuances. Drink or hold.
