Description

Crafted as a tribute to founder Lorraine Ashmead, the Ode To Lorraine represents a classic Barossa blend where structure meets generosity. The 2022 vintage highlights old-vine Cabernet Sauvignon planted in the 1960s, tempered with the plush warmth of barrel-fermented Shiraz and a touch of Merlot.

  • Tasting Notes: Lifted, vibrant cassis and just-ripe plum notes accented by signature bay leaf, sweet spices of cinnamon and clove, and subtle forest floor complexity. Powerful yet elegant on the palate, with fine, persistent tannins clinging to the fruit finish.

  • Winemaking: 20 months in new and seasoned French oak puncheons.

  • Cellaring Potential: Drink now or cellar confidently for 15+ years.

  • Format: 6 x 750mL bottles ($41.66/bottle equivalent)

Special Offer: Available for a limited time at $250 per 6-pack (RRP $390). Low stock remaining.

Maker Notes

After a cracker vintage in 2021, we approached 2022 with caution, hoping the weather would allow for another great vintage. Sufficient winter rains gave the vines a good start and we escaped some tricky spring storms. The ripening season was mild and we kept a close eye on predicted rain but were lucky to have finished our harvest as the season broke. The Cabernet in the blend comes from a gnarly, spur pruned parcel planted in the 1960s. Typically it delivers structure with a distinct juicy
herbal edge which is certainly showing in our 2022. Tempered with the generosity of Shiraz with some barrel ferment and just a touch of Merlot, the resultant wine is generous and bold with a long, fine tannin line. - Jules Ashmead and Brock Harrison
