Description
Elderton was transformed from a vineyard supplying quality fruit to other wineries to a winery in its own right in 1982 and have since won much recognition for all of the wines, especially the Shiraz. Barossa Shiraz is now highly collectable worldwide, and the Elderton Estate Shiraz is always a benchmark for the region. The fruit for this Shiraz was traditionally sourced from the Elderton vineyard situated on the banks of the North Para River, Nuriootpa, Barossa Valley, South Australia. For several years our Estate Shiraz has come from our vineyards in Nuriootpa, Greenock and Craneford. In 2024 we introduced a 4th vineyard
to the mix, our Mengler vineyard. Another expression of Eden Valley here, with a real brightness of fruit and a very taught tannin structure. This vineyard, right on the edge of the Barossa Valley at high altitude is a very welcome addition to our portfolio, we are super excited with what is to come from this vineyard.
Our 4 vineyard sites each have unique ripening patterns owing to their different aspects, elevation and soil types. Our Greenock vineyard is on the western end of the Barossa, first to ripen for us and always brings a vibrant bouquet and punchy tannin to our blend. Our Nuriootpa plantings bring a depth of tannin and a lovely sweet spiced fruit element. Craneford is a more elevated site on leaner soils ripening later in the season and brings a lovely savoury note to the wine and Mengler as mentioned brings a brightness and vitality to the blend.
