Our Barossa Shiraz comes from many parcels across our three vineyard sites. These vineyards ripen differently owing to their different aspects, elevation and soil types. Our Greenock vineyard is on the western end of the Barossa, first to ripen for us and always brings a vibrant bouquet and punchy tannin to our blend. Our Nuriootpa plantings bring a depth of tannin and a lovely sweet spiced fruit element and our Craneford vineyard is a more elevated site on leaner soils ripening later in the season.
| Winemakers Comments | The season leading into 2022 was mild, with enough rainfall to set our vines up for a low stress run into vintage. Very mild summer conditions, without heat spikes, allowed for gentle ripening and exceptional concentration of fruit flavours. This wine was fermented in a combination of open concrete fermenters with a portion in closed stainless steel fermenters, which helped to hold in fragrance and vibrancy. The parcels were kept separate as they went through malolactic fermentation in barrel, before further maturation in a mix of French and American puncheons to soften and build volume around the bold tannin structure of this wine. A heady waft of ripe red berries and a freshly mown meadow framed by eucalyptus trees sets the stage for a grand red berry entrance – plush, opulent and proud. This has rich redcurrant and blackberry speaking in a loud, clear voice, with the solid fruit platform propelled by a firm acid seam. It finishes tight, aided by a cluster of fine-grained tannins, which suggests a long, fruitful life in the cellar.
